Holidays in St. Helier
St Helier ,the renowned capital of Jersey, offers a fine mixture of the old and the new and is a popular base for holidaymakers of all ages. The town remains steeped in history, named after the Island’s first and most famous saint who lived and preached in Jersey in the 8th century, and boasts numerous museums and places of historical interest.
Many streets still carry old French titles and many shop fronts still boast the names of their island founders. The Parish Church is worth a visit with its mix of architectural styles. The Island's parliament, one of the oldest assemblies in the Commonwealth, sits in the States Chamber in the Royal Square; The Central Market, full of fresh produce, meats, fish and flowers, which opened in 1882, is well worth a visit. This is also a lively and popular resort, flanked by two glorious beaches, with relaxing promenades on either side of the busy harbour, and with much to offer. A huge array of shops, bars and restaurants, as well as buzzing nightlife, awaits you and the pedestrianised shopping centre ensures browsing at leisure is made easy.
